This urban couple has the best porch in the neighborhood for happy hours, games, meals alfresco and pop-ins with neighbors walking by to relax, visit and enjoy their happy space.

Warm up the Welcome

This hospitality queen had recently moved, lost the love of her life and wanted to warm up her welcome. In a weekend, her living room, dining room and foyer were transformed to match the warmth & welcoming that she gives to others.

Southern Serenity

These clients were getting ready for their daughter’s high school graduation party, plus the wife always wanted a southern porch as a calm space from their busy and demanding lives. Some furniture redo, repurposing worn cushions, adding the details (even curtains)- now creates a beautiful refuge for reading, relaxing, or refreshments.

Boho Beauty

The owner of the hair salon had a clean slate after relocating her business due to a fire at her home. She also just started an additional business with Cabi and wanted a boutique feeling to spotlight her clothes and accessories. The goal was to create multi-functioning zones, in an elevated, relaxing atmosphere to inspire joy and creativity – while taking away the feelings of being overwhelmed and displaced. Boho Beauty is a warm hug, with elements of color to delight and texture to relax – all qualities that reflect the client.

About Feather Your Nest Decorating

My love of color started as a little girl. A box of new crayons, especially the big box with the sharpener brought me such joy. I would spend hours coloring and using my imagination plus I could identify every crayon by the name. I had a very creative aunt who was like my big sister - she made the most incredible Barbie houses and furniture from all kinds of odds and ends (cardboard, bottle caps, fabric scraps). I loved moving my room around and recreating my space, including a bulletin board that got changed seasonally.

Then, as a new military wife, with a husband who was out to sea in the Navy- I had a lot of time to fill- but didn't have extra money, as a new stay-at-home Mom. I tapped into creativity, using what I had to design our home on a budget. I think I got that skill from my Mom, who I jokingly refer to as "MacGyver" because she can create and figure things out in all kinds of new ways- that you wouldn't even think about.

When we left the military and moved again to a new home- I had a clean slate to create our new nest. I was blessed with meeting some women who were creative and talented and learned not to be afraid to try things- everything did not have to be matchy-matchy, and to play with colors ("it's only paint and some time- if you don't like it- paint it again"). That encouragement gave me newfound confidence and I also learned to listen to my intuition and creativity more. I found it opened up more creativity and ideas.

I've helped people for years in decorating in their home, picking paint colors, accessorizing, answering questions "what about?" Recently- after I posted the latest project post on social media- so many people wrote, "when are you coming to my home?" On Easter eve as I was getting ready for bed- God gave me the Divine download- "Feather Your Nest Decorating". I couldn't even sleep because of all the ideas....I wasn't sure I was looking for more in my busy, full life. The next day, a good friend texted me a question about placement of something in her home (on Easter Sunday) and tears came to my eyes- in realizing the confirmation of a dream-that had been building for a long time. Feather Your Nest Decorating was hatched.

About the name……I have always loved feathers..years ago I attended a conference and we were given a feather and told the story of Dumbo as a little elephant with big ears who as ridiculed by the other elephants. He was given a feather as a source of confidence and comfort to remind him that he was capable of magical things and can fly. I related to that in starting a new business, growing in confidence, and battling doubt and the “what would others think”. It just spoke to my spirit. All of us are capable of magical things, possibilities and can soar! During the Pandemic, I found the following scripture- Psalms-91:4 “He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection” and another Divine download happened- the birth of Feather & Foundation, my podcast which features WOW (Word of the Week) words – qualities and character traits that get discussed on each podcast. Feather & Foundation- celebrates Positivity, Possibilities, Joy, Beauty & Creativity. (check it out on Spotify, Apple or at Feather and Foundation on Instagram.) AND- If you ever receive a gift from me- you’ll will have a feather attached to it, as a reminder of your magical thinking, possibilities, and that you too can soar!
